Roadwork - Western ZoneEarthworks are underway along both carriageways between Windsor Road and Pennant Hills Road, including excavation, rock hammering, rock grinding and reinforced earth wall construction. Drainage work and construction of basins is ongoing, and new pavement construction is underway in various locations. Windsor Road west-facing on and off rampsA major milestone of the upgrade is the installation of new west facing on and off-ramps at Windsor Road in the second quarter of 2012. Current workThe new west facing ramps at Windsor Road are progressing well. Construction of the reinforced permanent concrete barriers has commenced and installation of new noise walls will commence in March. Placement of pavement layers will is scheduled to start late February to early March Windsor Road CompoundThe compound at the corner of Windsor Road and Torrs street has been established in support of the new west facing on and off ramps at Windsor Road and widening work in the area, and will remain in use for the duration of the project. Windsor Road Bridge workTo accommodate the new west facing on and off ramps, the Windsor Road overbridge will be widened on the western side and modified to provide access to the new ramps. Windsor Road will be widened from north of Woodlands Street to Oakland Avenue. Current workWindsor Road Bridge is in its final stages of completion with the new bridge deck poured and throw screens installed. Junction Road work areaA work area was established at the corner of Junction Road and Windsor Road to support work along Windsor Road, and the new west facing on-ramp. Restoration of the turnaround area at the top of Junction Road is expected to commence in late March to early April. Property adjustment work along Windsor Road is progressing, and service relocations are almost complete. Darling Mills Creek Bridge workThe Darling Mills Creek Bridge will be widened by about 3.5m on the eastbound carriageway (northern side) to provide one extra eastbound lane. Work on the Darling Mills Creek Bridge commenced in March. Current workBridge pier construction is complete, and bridge deck construction is well underway with concrete pours scheduled for late February and early March. Pedestrian accessThe public walking track underneath Darling Mills Creek Bridge will be closed for safety reasons while construction activities are underway. On occasions, when it is safe and feasible, a track will be re-opened for public use. Signs will be installed to indicate when the tracks are closed. Ventura Road trackEstablishment of a tower crane and a worker scaffold access ramp on the bridge will provide adequate access to undertake the bridge upgrade works. The track may be used by the project team in the event of an unforseen event such as a medical or other emergency. The track will continue to be used periodically by Hills Motorway and the Roads and Traffic Authority for bridge maintenance and inspection purposes. Barclay Road Bridge workThe Barclay Road Bridge crosses the Hills M2 Motorway in North Rocks. The northern span of Barclay Road Bridge needs to be lengthened by approximately 4 metres and a new abutment built. This major program of work is expected to be completed in mid 2012. The northern span of the Barclay Road Bridge will be lengthened in three stages. One traffic lane in each direction will remain open. Pedestrian and cyclist access will be maintained over the bridge, with diversions in place. Current workWork to lengthen the Barclay Road Bridge is continuing. An access scaffold to the underside of the bridge has been erected in the bus stop area. Some of the bridge work needs to be done at night when lanes can be closed on the Hills M2 Motorway. This is to avoid the risk of objects and materials falling onto the traffic below Barclay Road Bridge. Stage two of construction to extend the bridge on the northern side is underway. Work is concentrated in the southbound carriageway. Access to the Hills M2 bus stop and the commuter car park will be maintained. Bus routes over Barclay Road Bridge will also remain unchanged. Yale Close BridgeThe Yale Close Bridge is a 35 metre long, single span Super-T bridge that extends over Blue Gum Creek. The bridge will be widened approximately 3.5 metres on the south side and the median barrier relocated to accommodate the eastbound widening. Current workThe bridge deck is nearing completion, and bridge edge concrete barrier installation has commenced. Noise wall construction is well progressed either side of the bridge and will continue across the bridge throughout March and April. |
