The current lane arrangement of two general traffic lanes and a bus lane in the westbound direction will be maintained during peak traffic periods. Construction work on the bridge commenced in March and is expected to take approximately two years to complete. Current workWestbound bridge beam installation is complete and the westbound bridge deck extension is nearing completion. Demolition of the central median on the citybound carriageway is underway. Pedestrian accessThe public walking track underneath Devlins Creek Bridge is closed for safety reasons while construction activities are underway. On occasions, when it is safe and feasible, the western track will be re-opened for public use. Signs will be installed to indicate when the tracks are closed. Murray Farm Road Bridge workThe Murray Farm Road Bridge (also known as Kirkham Street Bridge) crosses the Hills M2 Motorway in Beecroft. Murray Farm Road Bridge will be lengthened by approximately 8 metres on the northern side. This work should be completed by late 2012. In April 2011, traffic on the Murray Farm Road Bridge was reduced to one lane in alternating directions using signalised traffic control on both sides of the bridge. In late August 2011 the through traffic was switched from one side of the bridge to the other. This allowed for the next stage of construction to be undertaken. Some of the work on the Murray Farm Road Bridge needs to be done at night when lanes can be closed on the motorway. This is to avoid the risk of objects and materials falling onto the traffic below the bridge. Current workWork to construct the new central median pier has commenced while extension of the bridge to the north is progressing well. Please follow the signs and drive with care. Beecroft Road BridgeThe Beecroft Road Bridge crosses the Hills M2 Motorway in Beecroft. To accommodate the widening, the bridge will be modified from a three span bridge to a two span bridge. The motorway will be widened to provide one extra lane in each direction underneath Beecroft Road Bridge. The bridge modification will involve temporary traffic changes both on the Hills M2 Motorway and on Beecroft Road bridge so that construction work can be carried out safely. Pedestrian access will be maintained and changes sign posted. Current workAll new central median bridge piers have been constructed and scaffolding work is currently under way to allow concrete pours that will connect the new piers to the existing bridge..Work to demolish the existing Beecroft Road bus ramp commenced on 10 February and continues over 3 weekends between 8pm Fridays and 5am Mondays. Norfolk TunnelThe Norfolk Tunnel is being widened to provide three lanes and a breakdown lane in each tunnel tube. This major program of work is expected to take approximately two years to complete. Noise reducing curtains have been installed at both ends of the eastbound tunnel in preparation for widening work. These curtains are made of sound absorbing material and cover each end of the tunnel to reduce construction noise impacts on the surrounding residences. The curtains will be open during the day and closed at night when work is being carried out.
