Hills M2 Upgrade completed west of Pennant Hills Road mid April 2013

The Hills M2 Upgrade between Watkins Road, Baulkham Hills and Pennant Hills Road, Carlingford opens Monday, 15 April 2013. This will be the first section of the final stage of the Hills M2 Upgrade to reach completion, with work continuing east of Pennant Hills Road into mid-year.

The $550 million Hills M2 Upgrade will reduce travel times and improve access to the Sydney Orbital Network, growing residential and business centres at Macquarie Park and Sydney's north-west.

Travelling on the Hills M2 Upgrade

Between Windsor Road and Pennant Hills Road a third citybound lane will open and the speed limit in this section will increase to 100kmh in each direction. The breakdown lanes in both directions have also been restored. We anticipate congestion will be reduced in this section, particularly during busy morning peak periods.

Cyclists are not permitted access to the motorway all upgrade work is completed, around mid-2013.

Tolling

For vehicles entering and exiting the motorway at the west-facing Pennant Hills Road toll points, the new toll will be $3.15 for cars and motorcycles and $9.45 for large vehicles and will be indexed quarterly.

The Hills M2 Upgrade is funded by private investment. Toll collection covers the costs of financing, designing, constructing and maintaining the motorway.

Pennant Hills Road citybound off ramp closure

Pennant Hills Road citybound off ramp will be closed between 8pm and 8am on Saturday 23 March, Saturday 6 April and Saturday 4 May. The closures are required to allow pavement replacement work to take place. Traffic controls will be in place, please drive carefully and follow the signs.

New Christie Road and Herring Road ramps are now open to traffic

The new east facing Christie Road and Herring Road ramps are now opened to traffic, completing the second stage of the $550 million Hills M2 Upgrade.

The new east facing ramps are an important new connection, that improve accessibility to Macquarie Business Park, Macquarie University, Macquarie Centre and the Sydney Orbital Network. Motorists will now be able to join and exit the Hills M2 Motorway using Herring Road and Christie Road, improving access to the growing Macquarie Park business and residential district.

The new ramps will reduce weekly peak period travel times for some motorists by up to 40 minutes.

Tolling

The toll on the new ramps is $2.71 for cars and motorcycles and $8.13 for trucks and heavy vehicles, which will be indexed quarterly. The Hills M2 Upgrade is funded by private investment. Toll collection covers the costs of financing, designing, constructing and maintaining the motorway.

Work notifications

The project team will continue to deliver notifications to residents in the vicinity of the motorway regarding upcoming work in their area.

Standard hours of work are from 7am until 6pm Monday to Friday and from 8am to 1pm Saturday. Some work requires lane closures on the motorway at night due to the high volume of traffic during daytime peak periods. Notifications about night work will be provided to potentially affected residents prior to night work commencing.

Traffic changes on the motorway and local roads

There will be changes to traffic conditions on the motorway and local roads as excavation, earthwork, pavement work, median widening and line marking is carried out.
